The study of global affairs focuses on the interactions and relationships between sovereign states, international organizations, and non-state actors in a world of increasing interdependence. The field explores the diverse impacts of globalization on nations, economies, and societies while addressing issues such as conflict resolution, international trade, human rights, and diplomacy.
Amid a growing sense of instability, the need for effective leadership in global affairs has never been greater. At Brookings, our experts provide policymakers and stakeholders in Washington and around the globe with trusted insights to help advance peace and security.
From protecting the environment to preventing epidemics, global issues transcend national boundaries and demand multidisciplinary solutions. Through the interdisciplinary global affairs major, students gain an in-depth understanding of these challenges by analyzing the complex political, economic, cultural, and environmental processes that shape our globalizing world. Core courses give students a knowledge foundation while the choice of a thematic or regional concentration helps them tailor their studies to their own interests and career goals.
The program is intended for students who wish to pursue careers in government, non-governmental organizations, or the private sector. Students will acquire a strong foundation in the areas of human rights and humanitarianism, economic development and poverty, global health, and international relations, with the ability to integrate their study of these topics through a wide range of electives and the flexibility to take a summer internship.
